Writing Advice

Hi guys! I’ve had quite a few people ask me what advice I would give to young, new writers. I figure if they are interested, you might be as well, so here’s what I had to say:

The best advice I have is this:

1. Read a lot, because the more you read, the more you understand how to write a great book.

2. If you want to be a writer, the best way to get good at it is practice. Write a lot! Try out different stories and see what you like writing.

3. Be patient with yourself. The ability to be a good writer is not something that someone is just born with. They have to work at it, and they have to do a lot of revising. Things won’t turn out perfect the first time, ever, even when you’re a published writer!

4. Last, Believe in yourself and your dreams. Anything is possible! Go out there and change the world!

p.s. Here is a link to a short video I made of the house where STUNG begins.

  1. I love both stung and cured and i want to read shifting. I want the third book to be from bowens point of view. That would be so cool.

  2. Bethany Wiggins,

We agree with Alyssa. You should make a book out of Bowen’s point of view. We believe it would be amazing to see how Bowen saw everything. You should make another one but in Kevin’s point of view. You are an amazing writer. We believe you can pull it off and make an amazing book with their point of view. I believe you can do it no matter what people may say. You are amazing as we both think. Please with all our hearts make those books so we can read them every day.

    Sincerely,
    Sienna Martinez and Beatrice Smith

  3. I think that for the actress of Fiona it should be Shailene Woodley and for Jonah it should be Taylor Lautner. For Bowen it should be Nick Roux because he has that kid of personality that would be perfect foe the roll. For Jacqui it should be Kristen Stewart. That’s all I can think of but hopefully it will help get started.

  4. Dear Bethany,

In my opinion, I think you should definitely write a third book from Jonah’s point of view because it feels like there is so much to say about him, as if there is more to him than you think. It seems like before he turned into a beast along with the other children that got the vaccine, he was more open and known by the other characters so well. Now that everything is different after what happened, he seems like a completely different person, just in the same body (apart from any genetically altered parts of him and his scars.)

  5. I am sorry to say this but I am actually didn’t have to practice writing to become good at it. I am sorry if it sounds like i am bragging. It just came naturally. and I have a great imagination because everyone hates me TuT so my friends in my head and I just realized that makes me sound like a lunatic. this is why I have no friends. But yay me for having hobbies. Many, many hobbies. I am sorry if it sounds like I want your sympathy.

    1. You must be blessed with an awesome gift for writing, Katie. I had to work so hard to get good at writing!!! And still, every time I write a new book, I doubt myself the whole time. So embrace that gift and do something amazing with it!
